Kranji Army Barracks

A lost remnant of the war.

Even though it started off as a military base meant to store armaments and ammunition supplies, the Kranji Army Barracks, also known as the Ordinance Supply Base, eventually became property of the Japanese after the fall of Singapore. It served as a prisoner-of-war camp during the Japanese Occupation, only returning back to the hands of the British after the surrender of the Japanese and the liberation of Singapore. Back in September 1970, it was established as a storage centre for weapons, ammunition and spare parts of military vehicles but was dissolved by 1981 and has since been abandoned. Although it became part of the Kranji Heritage Trail in 2011, the army barracks had been demolished to make way for future developments in 2013.
